I published another article about the match but in this one I want to highlight how Lebanese Armenian (at least the ones around me) were thinking about the game and Abdallah Gul’s historic visit to Armenia.
The central committee of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation in Lebanon released a press announcement which I rate as good. It would have been better if they were more offensive in it.
On the people’s level, the older ones were taking the issue as “business”. I heard one saying that Armenia needs its neighbors and one has to be good with the neighbors. I didn’t let this pass and he got the answer: “I prefer to live in the worst situation and have dignity rather than living in the best situation but be with Turks”.
The youths around me were thinking in the way I was but some of them were not also finding a problem in Gul’s visit to Armenia.
Are we so desperate to forget all our struggle and start a relationship with Turkey?
Will our struggle in the past decade go in vain?
Will the blood of our martyrs go in vain?
I was so disappointed by the public opinion of the Lebanese Armenians around me!
I’m listening to some patriotic songs now and I can really use the words in the song here for Serzh Sargsyan too… “Yerp bidi desnem kahin nsdadz hay ishkhan… hay darerov krer hayots hraman!”
